Arts Letters and Numbers is pleased to invite you to a celebratory gathering and performance of our findings and interpretations, developed over an intense week of immersion in original artifacts held in the Atomic Archive of physicist Robert Dalton Harris and writer Diane De Blois.
In 1947, after the end of World War II and the use of the Atom Bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a highly secretive conference of scientists, businessmen and representatives of the US Government were held to determine the future use of Atomic Energy. These meetings were chaired by physicist Robert Oppenheimer. The artifacts in question are original doodles collected from these Joint meetings. Numbering well over one hundred examples, these artifacts offer a remarkable ‘capture’ of the moment in time: they contain the questions, peripheral thoughts, imaginations and dreams of the participants of these seminal meetings. In addition to collecting the drawings, Bryan F. LaPlante, the head of security during these meetings, made a sketch of the table seating arrangement of one of the key meetings, identifying who sat where. more....
