/about
The Transformation Project is an annual art show dedicated to raising awareness, providing support, and fostering hope and recovery in response to Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and its impact on individuals, families, and communities.
Organized by the NOpiates Committee and Arts Letters & Numbers, and curated by Frida Foberg, the project plays a vital role in cultivating supportive communities that transcend age, status, values, and beliefs. Bringing together diverse perspectives and creative responses to lived experience, The Transformation Project features works that range from deeply personal narratives to broader reflections on resilience and the role of society.
The exhibition is free and open to all; however, due to the sensitive nature of the works, some content may be triggering. The opening event on November 8th will feature live performances, including a special presentation by the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company.

The Transformation Project began in 2023 after Brent Benedetto and Ira Baumgarten from Arts Letters & Numbers attended the NOpiates Committee’s annual chicken BBQ fundraiser, where the idea for an art exhibition addressing SUD through the arts was conceived. Together with Kim and Tim Murdick of the NOpiates Committee, they launched the initiative in collaboration with Frida Foberg and Steve Lawrence from Arts Letters & Numbers, Brian Sheldon from the Sand Lake Center for the Arts, and Kim Favro from the Rensselaer County Mental Health–Student Assistance Program.
Since then, the project has grown through regional open calls and community workshops, featuring visual art, writing, music, and performance. It has engaged 99 artists and 35 students, presenting over 130 works across venues including Arts Letters & Numbers and the Sand Lake Center for the Arts.
