WHERE POEMS COME FROM
Craft Talks and Workshops
Multi-award- winning author and poet, Frank X. Gaspar, will be offering a two day writing workshop at Arts Letters and Numbers in Averill Park, NY on May 30th and 31st, with a public reading on June 1st. Frank is the author of five collections of poetry and three novels. Among his many awards are the Morse, Anhinga, and Brittingham Prizes for poetry, multiple inclusions in Best American Poetry, three Pushcart Prizes, a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Literature, and a California Arts Council Fellowship in poetry. Gaspar’s awards for fiction include a Barnes and Noble Discovery Prize, a California Book Award for First Fiction, a New York Times Notable Book award, and a MassBook of the Year in Fiction. Gaspar’s work has appeared widely in magazines and literary journals, including The New Yorker, The Nation, The Harvard Review, The American Poetry Review, and others.
Frank is offering a convocation that welcomes all comers, all levels of interest and skill-levels, including a warm introduction for those who are just interested in deepening their own experiences through art.
If you are working on poems or want to write poems, are looking for a place to talk about poetry and further your love for it - or just start up a relationship with the love of writing, then join Frank Gaspar for two days of talking craft, reading poems, and working on your own writing. Discover new ideas, new origins, and new pathways into the artistic pleasures of writing your deepest feelings and your best thoughts.
Open workshops of this nature are uniquely profound in that they open us to the exploration of the profound nature of art, where veterans are invited to reimagine their roots, and novices are emboldened to break through barriers.
The workshops will be held on Tuesday May 30th from 1-3:30, and Wednesday May 31st from 10-12:30, culminating in a public reading by workshop participants and Frank on the evening of June 1st from 6-8PM. The reading and reception are open to the public.
Workshop fee $100
